Q: How to transfer my existing domain to ChaliceHost?
A: To transfer an existing domain from your current hosting provider to our servers, a DNS record modification request will need to be made with your domain registration provider. You may contact your domain registration provider and ask them to change DNS record for your domain to point to our server.
Notes: NameServer information for your domain are depend on what server your account put on. Please refer to welcome email we sent at registration for correct nameserver information for your account.

Q: How long does it take to transfer a domain?
A: Once the DNS modification request has been submitted, it can take anywhere from 24-72 hours. Usually this is much closer to 24 hours. It usually depends on the time that your request is received at your registrar (most only process requests once a day).
Your domain is set up immediately on our servers. It is the timing at the registrar that will determine how long it takes for the transfer to be "visible".

Q: Are you support international/country level domain name?
A: Yes. Our servers support all international domain name. You may use any international domain name (i.e.: company.co.uk, company.com.au, etc.) for your web site. Just point them to our server by changing DNS information for your domain to using our nameserver.

Q: I need to move my files from my current host to your machines, but I don't know how. Can you help?

Q: Will I be able to use your SSL certificate or do I have to purchase my own?
A: You can use our SSL certificate, however, you will receive browser warnings about the domain names not matching. With our certificate you can use the secure URL https://servername.chalicehost.com/~your_username/ - you may find this fine for your particular use. An anonymous secure SSL also available for your account. However, if you want to use https://www.your_own_domain.com/ you will need to provide your own certificate. For professional use, we suggest you purchase your own certificate so visitors do not see warnings/errors when they go to your secure pages.
SSL Certificates can be purchased either from Verisign or Thawte Consulting.

Q: What kind of credit card type do you accept for payment?
A: We accept Master Card, Visa, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diner's Club International and Carte Blanche for your payment.

Q: Do you accept any other forms of payment besides credit card?
A: Yes, we also accept either online check (USA only), personal checks or money orders and wire transfers. If you use these forms of payment, though, we ask that you pay at least for six months in advance in order to avoid problems with late payments. Please note that we cannot process your application until we receive your payment. Also all of the bank fees must be borne by you.

Q: Why your company name not appear in my credit card statement?
A: Because we use third-party company to process credit card payment, the charge will appear as "PaySystems.com, Inc." or "myPaySystems" on your credit card statement. Don't worry about your credit card information as the company we used to process your credit card are saving your credit card information in very secure place.

Q: I got an error message that said my IP address was blocked and I can't use credit card to pay your service. What's wrong?
A: Our systems blocking several IP addresses to access our credit card registration page for fraud prevention purposes. We do this since we receive several fraud credit card transactions from several countries. If your IP has been blocked by our system, you may contact us to release your IP address.

Q: Are there any conditions on your 30 day guarantee?
A: None, except for one. If you violate our terms of service or our anti spam policy, your 30 day guarantee is null and void. We would love to not have to make any exceptions at all to our guarantee, but abuses in the past have forced us to limit our guarantee to non-spammers. Otherwise, if you are unhappy with us for any reason, or just simply decide to go elsewhere, you will be granted a full refund.

Q: Is my account upgradable?
A: Yes, quite easily. Drop us a note by submitting a helpdesk ticket or contact our support department at support@chalicehost.com and we'll be glad to extend your plan according to your needs. All of our plans are upgradable, including dedicated plans. We will do our best to work with you to keep your company's web presence constant and to help you grow with demand.

Q: How does your e-commerce solution work? Can I see a demo?
A: RedHat Interchange; Agora; and osCommerce are available for our customers which using "Business" or "Commerce" packages and up. We currently do not offer any demo for those shopping cart.

Q: Can you facilitate a payment transaction system for use by your e-commerce solution?
A: No, but we would recommend CyberCash.com, CardService.com, iBill.com, CCBill.com, Revecom.com or 2CheckOut.com for your payment processing.

Q: As you offering MySQL databases, do you support phpMyAdmin or have a web interface for MySQL?
A: Yes, phpMyAdmin is installed in the user control panel (only for packages which have MySQL included). You can use it to perform almost all needed operations on your database.

Q: Do you support bigmailbox.com and/or everyone.net?
A: Yes! We fully support both services (and other like them, i.e.: OemMail.com) - and unlike some other web hosting providers, we do not charge any extra fees to make the required DNS changes for you.

Q: Do you offer domain parking?
A: We do not have any type of account for domain parking only. However if you have an account with us, we do allow you to park one or two other domains at your account if needed. However the parked domains can only resolve to your top-level web directory. They can not resolve to sub-directories (to do this would require separate accounts for each domain).

Q: What kind of servers do you have?
A: For shared web hosting service, we utilize Intel Pentium 500+ servers that run RedHat Linux 6.2 and up. Depending on the current market, servers will be faster than Intel Pentium 500's and may running other OS and/or other processor. But we do guarantee at least we utilize a P500's class servers for web hosting.
The newest server that we utilize is Dual Intel Pentium III 1 Ghz with 1 Giga Bytes of RAM that run RedHat Linux 7.3 (last updated: July 2002).

Q: What kind of internet connection do you use?
A: We have multiple, redundant T3 connections to the North American backbone through Sprint, Earthlink, UUNET, Genuity, Level3, PSI, Digex and AOL.

Q: Other web hosts are promising more than 99.5% uptime. Why do you only guarantee 99.5%?
A: We only guarantee 99.5% because we believe in being honest with our customers. We don't want even .01% downtime. What makes us happy is happy customers. However, occasionally, situations arise that are beyond even our control, that may take some time to fix. It is our duty to keep our network running smoothly, so you, the customer, can conduct your business without having to worry about your website being down all the time. However, it is also our duty not to promise our customers anything that circumstances MIGHT cause us to breach.
Updated: We now proudly offer 99.9% uptime as from our records all of our servers are have at least 99.9% uptime.

Q: Can I have SSH/Telnet access on my shared account?
A: SSH access are available only for selected package and may be use for valid reason only. If you need SSH access, let us know at support@chalicehost.com or submit a helpdesk ticket at http://support.chalicehost.com. For security reason, SSH access will be granted only for limited time period.

Q: Do you use off site backup?
A: We do on-site backup to separate drive, unmounted after backups for security. From our TOS regarding backup files (Jan, 2003):
Client will have the ability to reinstate files which are automatically archived by ChaliceHost, however, ChaliceHost does not guarantee the existence, accuracy, or regularity of its backup services and, therefore, client is responsible for making any back-up files in connection with its use of the services. Backup capability is available through the clients Control Panel.

Q: Do you support FrontPage?
A: Yes! After you sign-up, enter a request for the frontpage extensions to be added to your account. You may also activating this feature from your cPanel.

Q: Can I send unsolicited email from my ChaliceHost account?
A: No. Absolutely not. You should know better than to even ask this question. We monitor for spam very closely and ANYONE caught sending spam from our servers will be FINED and/or TERMINATED. Sending spam is a violation of our terms of service and our anti SPAM policy and therefore renders your 30 day money back guarantee NULL AND VOID.

So, it's quite simple, for all you spammers out there. Please look elsewhere!
